Charlie Melton
Originally from Sydney but now a Barossa icon, Charlie moved to the valley as a young lad in 1974 and now has over 50 years winemaking experience in the Barossa.
Charlie initially spent time as an apprentice to Peter Lehmann, becoming familiar with the capabilities of the region’s fruit before venturing out on his own to create Charles Melton Wines with wife Virginia.
Finance
Virginia Weckert
Virginia is the Financial Director of Charles Melton; wife of Charlie and mother of three. She also has the huge task of overseeing the general running of the business.
A typical day for Virginia involves being the IT manager, payroll officer, accounts manager, interior designer and in-house Chef.
Winemaker
Sophie Melton
Sophie joins the Charles Melton team after spending the last 10 years studying and working with in the wine industry. Following in her father’s footsteps, Sophie began her journey working a vintage at Peter Lehmann Wines before studying at the University of Adelaide. From there, Sophie spent six years working as Assistant Winemaker at Thorn-Clarke Wines.

Deb has been an integral part of the team for the past 10 years, overseeing the general administration of all things wine.

Pete is our longest standing employee, seeing out the last 30 years managing our 85 acres of vineyards across the Barossa.
Viticulturalist
Jack
Jack joined us with a farming background in Agriculture and now manages the technical Viticulture side of things.

Leandra is as local as they come. Hailing from Angaston, Leandra knows more than most about the Barossa and it’s wine.

Murphy is the fur child of Sophie and is always ready for a pat or a round of fetch.

Arie is Virginia and Charlie’s girl. You will often find Arie snoozing the day away in the corner of Cellar Door.
